BFAP is currently in the establishment phase of small-scale farm economics analyses and development. These projects typically include analyses and financial modelling of various small-scale households and understanding the economics of small-scale farming in both South Africa and in Sub-Saharan Africa. Furthermore, it is important for BFAP to understand the key areas which will determine the sustainability of small-scale projects in South Africa. The development phase will include the process of identifying, constructing and evaluating typical small-scale farms across South Africa.
Small-scale Farmer Economics is just one component of the Farming Systems Analysis Environment. All three components are used in their unique way to add value to a farming systems model. Key outputs of our approach can be found under Farming Systems Analysis.
